Who is Guinea Read (Previously "Stands for School")?
Guinea Reads, basically, is you. The children who take the initiative to set up a stand solely for the benefit of children of Kouya Sidia are Guinea Reads. The parents who provide them with supplies and encouragement are Guinea Reads. The customers who pause in their day to purchase lemonade from a stand are Guinea Reads. Anyone who shares the message about the project is Guinea Reads.
Where are the donations going that are being sent in?
100% of the funds are currently spent on school fees, uniforms, purchasing supplies and materials, and building a library in Kouya Sidia.
How will the money get to the village?
In December whatever funds have been raised are personally delivered to Guinea and used to purchase supplies and materials at a location outside the village. They will be transported to the village and turned over to the governing body of the village who oversees the operations of the school. All materials and labor for the library will be purchased and hired within the village, if possible.
Is there anyone to oversee the school after the supplies are delivered along with the library?
Sayon has gone back to the village for two months a year for the past few years. He continues to visit his family in the village, and has secured a location within the village for the library. In addition there is a governing group within the village who oversees the operations of the school and the library.
How is this different than other fundraising projects?
Guinea Reads is unique because it rewards the recipients as well as the children who raise the funds. While the goal is to help educate the children of Kouya Sidia, it also benefits the children in this country who learn that through hard work they can make a difference.
