One thing that is noticeably missing across Guinea are libraries. The next project for Guinea Reads is to address this basic necessity for literacy. The village of Kouya Sidia is working with Guinea Reads and together we are building a library. The power of literacy cannot be understated, especially in a country where the literacy rate is around 30%. Building a solid foundation for the children will open up portals of learning and exploration that was not open to them.
In addition to printed text, the library will have a small computer where stories of the griots and elders in the village can be preserved in their native language - Malinke. It will be their library.
Please consider donating to this worthwhile cause. Every dollar donated goes directly to support the children and families of Kouya Sidia. Help us develop the library and promote literacy.
A book can open up a child's world.
Imagine what a library can do!
